In my opinion, and it is really personal, even the oldest of the oldest cognac does not hold a candle to armagnac. It is fiery, yet subtle, it is strong, yet sublime. Of all the wine distillates I know it is perfect. Probably none of the absinthe makers used armagnac as a base-and they should have used, in my opinion.

Just because you think it is your opinion only, it is a valid one and I find it among armagnac fans everywhere. I'll be trying my first armagnac in September. |

Agreed on all points, but the problem lies in the fact people sometimes do not know that something like armagnac exists, lest I forget a very small selection on the shelves (Delord, Montal and few others here in Poland). The current cognac is based more on marketing skills (Hennessy or Remy Martin campaigns) than on artistry, and cognac per se is a more expensive product than armagnac if people still reach for the former.
I am always happy when I can get any armagnac in my hands. So far I have tried St. Vivant, Delord and one I do not know the name (***, though). -------------------- «Une constitution qui est faite pour toutes les nations n'est faite pour aucune.»

I know that I will get lapidate but : The best cognac I had was an no name brand brought in vrac and bottled and sold by global and was also VS . But the truth is that cognac will always be an brandy. The only thing that I want to try is an real folle blanche cognac just to see.
