and enjoying some very ripe brie with it.

So if you (meaning anyone here) had no absinthe at all on hand and decided to buy one bottle of modern commercial absinthe, what would it be? This is another way of asking what is the best absinthe available. For what it's worth, if you search on absinthe at Amazon, one of the things that comes up is Ovaltine.

Artemis, If I have it right, your question means I am going to my local liquor store and not buying online, it would be Vieux Pontarlier, online it would
be Roquette.
And what am I drinking right now ? Fontaine.

Actually, it hadn't occurred to me that such a bottle could be bought in a walk-in store (I've never bought absinthe that way in my life), but thanks for your answers.

Ovaltine is a better alternative to 95% of the commercial stuff with "absinthe" ( with or without the "e") being made. Amazon has it right.

You may have a better in store supply at places like Rouse's, etc. than we have here in store, in the armpit of TX. (for absinthe at least)

At home here, is another story....gonna be at Tales of the Cockatoo in July.

I wasn't trying to be elitist or anything, but I've never seen absinthe on the shelf of any store around home, never really expected to see any, so I don't even check anymore. It was always a through-the-mail thing for me when it came to buying a bottle. I've checked at Rouse (but not recently) and there was nothing. I check for mead now and then; no luck with that either. There are no real liquor or wine stores on this side of the river. Crown Royal is peoples' idea of an exotic beverage around here. I don't think I've consumed any absinthe since the turn of the year. I have a couple of bottles I don't want to open; when I do drink (rarely), I drink beer.

Absinthe is really, really, bleak here, other things maybe not so much.

I had heard there were a few more things absinthe wise, in your area (other side of the river) in one or two of the big named shops, than what we get. Off the top of my head, I can't remember the other named shop to check. I always forget to look for other stuff during the July mess.

I bought a bottle of Pacifique off the shelves here about a year ago, which was the last time I bought any absinthe, other than the Blues Cat.

It's sad to say I've spent more for old empty bottles lately, than new full ones.

There is an interesting store, not only on the other side of the river, but on the other side of the lake, so it's a bit of a drive. It's actually a supermarket. Maybe one day I'll venture there, but I suspect there's a better chance of coming away with Belgian beer than with absinthe. It's called Aquistapace's.

Perhaps a Tales road trip?
