Hello friends,
I was discussing with Marc about the idea of trying to generate interest on the English-speaking side of this forum again.
The French side is so wonderful, and has such a diverse range of topics, experienced people, etc... The idea of having an agenda-free English speaking forum focusing on absinthe, its antiques, events, and history would be a wonderful benefit to this site. I am slowly learning French, and will eventually be more brave posting in French, but I also think expanding the English forum would be a good thing as well. The opportunity to welcome sincere and interested people
can only benefit the world of absinthe, expand awareness and education, and be a good thing for all!
I know many in the French forum also speak, read and write in English, and your experience is a great asset....I would hope you would join in when possible!
So my questions to you: Do you feel it is worth it? Do you have the time and/or interest? If yes, how do we spread the word and let people know?
If this were to grow, it would be very important to keep in the same tone and concept as the French forum, and I am sensitive to how important this is!
I was just wondering what people thought. I am thankful for the few new friends in France I have made, and am so looking forward to meeting them and more of you in Pontarlier in October!
Best, Scott

Bring Absomphe, and they'll follow.
On a related topic, I don't speak english, cannot participate, sorry

Is Absomphe still alive?
He must be... something like... 153 years old now.
Absinthe makes the life longer indeed!

As long as not too much unwanted baggage from the U.S. comes along. I enjoy the purity of topic here along with the occasional social topics and would not want to see what I saw at the WS.

Marc can attest, before the forum was transferred to museeabsinthe.com/forums it was oxygenee.com/forums when it began (about 7 years ago) - where discussion in English wasn't too uncommon.
I think it would be fun.

You're absolutely right Grim, it was originally an english speaking forum, one can still read the old posts in the archives.

A forum needs three moderators, so I am in. Do not call the TARN experiment out, though.
I still want a truce with Grim and I consider Luthier a fine, trustworthy guy. It is makeable. One has to wish.

All of this talk of a moderator is a bit premature is it not. Perhaps there will be enough traffic one day to warrant it. When or if that day comes, I would hope Marc selects someone who does not have preconceived notions taught by american admins & their personal agendas.

No number of glasses would ever make me attempt to post in French.
Reading French is much less trouble for me, and I have always appreciated and respected that this forum went French (as has been pointed out, it was originally English).
I don't think there can be too many places for people to talk. What harm could it do?

I'm happy to see things picking up a little here! It would be great if we could get some more people to post.
I would personally love to see more antiques posted and discussed! Also, anyone who has had pre-ban, it would be great to talk about it.
Invite friends please, I think we could have a quiet, appropriate, and absinthe-minded forum here, free from agenda and commercial interest, as is the goal of the French side here.

I would'nt mind to discuss in English, my French is not how it's supposed to be....Although I have to admit that during the years of collecting absinthe antiques, my French (speaking) has improved tremendously! Working on my writing skills....

Hey Jay!
As long all is kept independent from any influence... Forum, I mean.
And greetings to you, Boggy. I'm not sure why you felt the need to make that statement to me, but I suppose the online circle of absinthe devotees is small enough that I can't blame you for being a bit sensitive. However, I do hope you'll recall that the handful of exchanges we personally had at WS were free from drama. It may be true that I find that forum to be useful, but I (respectfully) form and hold my own opinions, and have no time or interest for personally-motivated "political maneuvering" of any sort. As long as we all treat each other with the same mutual respect and keep the conversations focused on absinthe (and absinthe antiques, here!), I can't imagine why either of us should not be perfectly happy.
To your health!
Marc and Rob - it's great to see familiar folks who are active here. Thanks for the welcome!

The statement was for everyone who feels this section needs to rise again bearing in mind not to repeat the mistakes of the past from other places.
Obviously, I recall our fruitful talks over the other places and I am more than sure this courteous exchange of thoughts from such an intelligent and broad-minded man-like you, shall continue. To your health as well!

May 12 2011, 07:09 PM
Making a forum be an agenda of a certain, reserved, hermetic group, not just a bunch of convivial enthusiasts of the tipple. Absinthe is about fun, neither science nor profit.

I see value in both science and fun, but I will admit that fun has a tendency to win out for me
Speaking of fun, I'm looking forward to taking a few pics of my small collection of antiques and sharing them with the group. I've always appreciated it when others have shared their photos, so hopefully some folks will find value in my own.
